Chiropractic Care for Better Immunity

Chiropractic Care for Better Immunity

With cold and flu season approaching and Covid 19 concerns still high, having a strong immune system is more important than ever. A properly functioning immune system is your first line of defense against infectious organisms, and it plays a huge role in protecting you from, and fighting off, disease and infection. It is also useful for keeping pre-existing conditions like diabetes, allergies, and asthma in check.

While flu strains change year to year, and the Coronavirus is a novel, or new, virus for which the body doesn’t have existing antibodies, a strong immune system is still necessary for fighting off these infections. Innate immunity, which is an automatic response to any foreign invader and is not dependent upon prior exposure or vaccination, and adaptive, or acquired, immunity, which draws on previous experience with the infectious agent.

Stress and anxiety, poor diet and lifestyle habits, cancer (and its treatments,) autoimmune disorders, impaired nerve communication, and certain other things can negatively affect your immune system response, increasing your chances of becoming ill, and lengthening recovery time.

But chiropractic care can help!

While many people only associate chiropractic care with spinal adjustments and other musculoskeletal manipulations for relieving neck/back pain, improving athletic performance, and enhancing mobility, it is perhaps the boost to the body’s immune system offered by chiropractic adjustments that are of particular benefit right now.

The central nervous system (CNS), comprised of the brain and spine, coordinates the sending and receiving of messages that control most body system activity, including immune system response. Because the spinal cord is the main conduit for this communication, proper spinal alignment is necessary for optimal functioning. Vertebral subluxations, or misalignments in the spine of which you may not even be aware, impede cell communication designed to trigger the immune response, making it harder for the body to detect infectious organisms and mount an appropriate defense.

Studies show that people who regularly include chiropractic care in their health and wellness routines for any reason report lower incidence of illness and infection than those who don’t. Optimal nervous system function directly correlates to a better immune system response.

We are inundated with ever-changing news, statistics, and guidelines for reducing the risk of contracting seasonal colds, flu, and Covid-19, but some things are constant. Washing your hands, eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of sleep, and integrating chiropractic into your health routine are proactive ways of preparing your body to meet current health challenges.

Chiropractic care is safe, natural, and proven effective at enhancing immunity through the restoration of nervous system performance. Contact us at Dynamic Sports Medicine to discuss ways chiropractic care can help boost immunity and help your body function at its best.
