Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about appointments, insurance, treatment plans, and sports performance care at Dynamic Sports Medicine.

Getting Started

No referral is needed to start care at Dynamic Sports Medicine. Texas’s Direct Access laws allow you to see a sports chiropractor without a physician referral first. That said, some insurance plans still require a referral for reimbursement — we recommend calling us ahead of your visit and we’ll help you sort it out.

  • Your first appointment typically runs 45-60 minutes. We’ll review your medical history, discuss your injury or performance goals, and run a physical assessment covering your movement patterns, strength, and range of motion. Most patients begin hands-on treatment during that same visit and leave with a clear plan for recovery.

Most patients see meaningful improvement within 3-4 sessions. More complex or chronic issues typically follow a plan of 2-3 visits per week over 4-6 weeks. At your initial evaluation, we’ll give you an honest timeline based on your specific condition — no vague answers, no indefinite treatment plans.

Cost depends on your insurance coverage and the treatments involved. We accept most major insurance plans and also offer transparent self-pay rates for patients without coverage. For athletes who want ongoing recovery support, we offer membership plans so you can stay ahead of injuries without paying per-visit fees each time.

Yes. We work with major providers including Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Aetna. We also offer competitive self-pay rates and membership options. Contact your nearest location in Austin, Dallas, or Houston and we’ll verify your benefits before your first visit.

Treatments & Services

We provide pro-athlete-level care including:

Dry Needling — targets muscle trigger points to release tension and reduce pain

Active Release Technique (ART) — a movement-based soft tissue method for breaking up adhesions

Shockwave / MYACT Therapy — acoustic pulse therapy that stimulates deep tissue healing

Cupping and Graston Technique — improves circulation and breaks down scar tissue

Strength & Biomechanical Rehab — addresses the root cause, not just the symptoms

Dry needling is a technique where thin filiform needles are inserted into muscle trigger points to release tension, reduce pain, and restore normal function. It’s particularly effective for chronic muscle tightness, overuse injuries, and referred pain patterns. Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is rooted in Western sports medicine and anatomy. Our providers will assess whether it’s appropriate for your condition during your initial evaluation.

Chiropractic care focuses primarily on the spine and joints — using adjustments to restore alignment and reduce pain. Sports medicine takes a broader, performance-centered approach that combines chiropractic care, clinical diagnostics, soft tissue work, and biomechanical analysis to get athletes back to full performance, not just basic function. At Dynamic Sports Medicine, we integrate both so you recover faster and come back stronger.

Traditional chiropractic care often centers on spinal adjustments. Our sports chiropractors go further. They use clinical diagnostics to identify the root cause of pain, then combine soft tissue therapy, movement rehab, strength training, and advanced modalities like shockwave therapy and dry needling. The goal isn’t just pain relief — it’s restoring how your body moves and performs.

A sports injury chiropractor specializes in musculoskeletal conditions caused or aggravated by athletic activity — covering everything from acute injuries like sprains, strains, and stress fractures to chronic overuse conditions like tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, and repetitive motion injuries. At Dynamic Sports Medicine, our sports injury chiropractors treat the full body: spine, shoulders, knees, hips, ankles, and more. If it’s affecting your ability to train or compete, we can help.

Injury Treatmeant

Yes. We treat a full range of knee conditions including ACL sprains and tears, patellar tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, meniscus irritation, and general knee pain from overuse or sport. Our approach combines manual therapy, strength rehabilitation, and movement retraining to restore stability and get you back to activity safely.

Yes. Shoulder injuries are among the most common conditions we treat — including rotator cuff strains and tears, shoulder impingement, labral issues, and post-surgical rehab. We use a combination of soft tissue work, ART, dry needling, and targeted strengthening to restore full shoulder function for athletes and active adults alike.

Absolutely. We treat both acute and chronic back pain, including lower back strains, disc issues, SI joint dysfunction, and pain related to poor movement mechanics. Rather than masking symptoms, we identify the biomechanical contributors and correct them — which is why our outcomes tend to last.

Yes, and this is a specialty of ours. We work with runners at all levels dealing with plantar fasciitis, shin splints, stress fractures, Achilles tendinopathy, hip flexor issues, and more. We also offer gait analysis to identify the movement patterns driving your injury so you can train smarter going forward.

Athlete & Performance

In most cases, yes. We take a modern, active-recovery approach — total rest is rarely the answer. Your provider will work with you to modify your training load so you can stay active and maintain fitness while your body heals. Staying in motion, done correctly, often speeds recovery.

Yes. Dynamic Sports Medicine was built around the needs of serious athletes. We work with recreational athletes, college competitors, and professional players across a range of sports. Our treatment protocols are the same modalities used by pro sports teams — we just make them accessible to everyone.

Every patient leaves with a Home Exercise Program (HEP) tailored to their body and sport. We also spend time on movement education — identifying and correcting the mechanics, habits, or imbalances that caused the injury in the first place. Treating the root cause is how we keep you out of our office and on the field.
